Rotary PolioPlus Memorial Scholarship
PP Ross Neilson and our club were instrumental in lobbying RI PolioPlus committee to commence a scholarship to honour and remember those volunteers who have sacrificed their lives while carrying out Polio immunisations.
This resulted in the Rotary PolioPlus Memorial Scholarship being established to recognise front-line health care workers, some who have sacrificed their lives, carrying out polio immunisations and other community based health activities. This year the first three scholars were presented with their scholarship awards in Nigeria while in Pakistan there were five scholars awarded their scholarship. During the presentations the Chair of the International PolioPlus committee referred to the Rotary Club of Maffra as the source of the idea for such scholarships. The names of the scholars in Nigeria are Dr. (Mr)Tolorunju Ayodeji Edu, Ms. Iveren Sandra Shinshima, and Mr. Oso Oluwatosin Babafunso who are studying at the University of Ibadan. They are all studying for a Master's Degree in Public Health. While in Pakistan the names of the scholars are Mr. Bilal Afzal, Dr. (Ms) Nadia Khan, Dr. (Ms) Koko Rizwan, Ms. Beenish Mehmood and Dr. (Ms) Ume Rabab who are studying for a Master's  Degree in Public Health at Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan. The following link is a blog from Dr. Koko Khurram Rizwan one of the recipients expressing her thoughts and appreciation on receiving her scholarship
